Responsibilities:
- Collect and analyze fingerprint evidence from crime scenes, victims, and suspects.
- Utilize advanced forensic techniques to identify and compare latent fingerprints.
- Utilize databases and specialized software to search and match fingerprints.
- Create and maintain accurate and detailed reports of findings.
- Testify in court as an expert witness regarding fingerprint evidence.
- Collaborate with law enforcement officials and other forensic experts to assist in criminal investigations.
- Stay up-to-date on advancements in fingerprint analysis and forensic science.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy and precision in all work performed.
- Handle evidence with care and follow proper chain of custody procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of all evidence and information.
- Provide training and guidance to other law enforcement personnel on fingerprint analysis.
- Maintain and calibrate equipment and tools used in fingerprint analysis.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures when handling evidence.
- Work efficiently and effectively under tight deadlines and in high-pressure situations.
- Represent the City of St. Louis in a professional and ethical manner at all times.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Forensic Science, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in latent fingerprint examination and analysis.
- Certification as a Certified Latent Print Examiner (CLPE) through the International Association for Identification (IAI).
- Knowledge of various fingerprint identification systems and software, such as Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS).
- Ability to accurately document and present findings in written reports and testify in court as an expert witness.
